Applejack: Woah nelly...
Rarity: Does this illustrate our would-be partnership, Your Highness? Tossed in front of danger at the first opportunity?
Blueblood: I-I'm terribly sorry, Ra– Lady Dainty Dove. H-Hardly know what came over me!
Rarity: No no, I understand perfectly. In your line of work, it's very important that you never get any "dirt" on you. Isn't that right... Invisible Thief, Leader of the Thieves Guild, ELUSIVE?!
DM: Umm. Did you say it in-character THAT loud?
Rarity: YES.
Again, if you're suddenly wondering whether the last few years of comics have merely been building up to a recontextualization of the "Afraid to get DIRTY?!" scenario...
More like the angry ooc-voice. It was already on the page before, but she was not shouting. Sometimes it is just too hard to keep the emotions separated.
Not likely at all. As Celestia is the defacto commander of the elements of harmony, princess by title, queen by authority, and goddess of the sun, she commands Rarity's loyalty. If she was elusive there would have been no conflict of interest. As such the fact the guild blacklisted her is proof that Celestia can't be elusive.
Yep, can't see Celestia being the "real" Elusive. Blueblood being a puppet leader, yes, Celestia being the puppetmaster, no. She might still take over the guild, though - take the Vetinari-style approach of "if there's going to be crime, I might as well make it controlled crime".
Yeah, but Vetinari never took over any guilds. He simply expected loyalty and cooperation from guild leaders - and if he didn't get that, the guilds got new leaders.
My personal favorite was when my polite, friendly baker girl finally snapped at the Big Bad of the campaign abducting her family and cussed him out while flipping him the bird. She was at that point ready to rip him apart by hand if that was what it took.
Nick: "How often do you miss your mark on a teleport spell?" Ezmerelda: "Never." Nick: "So this is unusual for you." Ezmerelda: "Hmm, well there is only one person who would dare to alter my teleport spell." Digo: "LONE STAR!!" [/Darth Helmet]
I think I mentioned this one recently, but it's a personal favorite.
GM: "It's the year 2048."
Player: "Why?"
GM: <stares in confusion at player. Other players start snickering, and finally GM just glares at him and continues.>
This is arguably child, now grown up, realizing that her parents didn't love them, and were just using them for their own personal gain.
It's horrifying, heartbreaking, and slightly comical due to the cartoon ponies being used as the medium.
But mostly the first two, and Elusive deserves a very long sabbatical from public life, guarded by VERY well paid guards who have negative histories with the Thieves' Guild, and full knowledge of WHY they're keeping Blueblood in house arrest for life.
As someone who's never watched the cartoon, I can't help but wonder sometimes how different my experience with this comic is compared to the average reader. I assume that a lot of people have a general idea of where the cartoon is going, and wonder how different episodes/story arcs will play out in the comic version. I think it's fun not having any idea what will come next, though, except for little bits that I glean from the comments... and even then, they generally play out a bit different than I picture.
Where the *cartoon* goes and where *Spud* goes are two very different things. We may have some idea what sort of screengrabs Spud can use - if he even uses them from the same episode - but no idea what words the characters will be speaking...
There's also the mixing of different episodes, and altering where certain lines are used.
The "laugh that you use when X" that Rarity used earlier in the arc is actually a reference to a different episode of the series than the one it applies to in comic.
"Dainty Dove" is the one acting here, and Elusive is the one who is going to get Blacklisted/removed from his position/"on sabbatical from public appearances due to the stress of his recent public appearances".
I'm pretty sure there never was any way Rarity would get un-blacklisted- doubt Blueblood could afford somebody not directly loyal to him knowing his identity.
And now it brings in a new challenge for Rarity, if she wants to either A) take over the thieve's guild herself, B) take DOWN the guild, or C) set up a rival group of thieves.
She's got to take over the parts she can, take down the worse elements of the Thieves' Guild, and possibly deal with splinter groups of Thieves who cause too much trouble/damage.
