I get done celebrating the anniversary of the comic, and then - oh snap, my own birthday is exactly two weeks away! This always happens.

A new Mawlers Take Manehattan is up! This is an adorable one, run by the player of the most adorable character. Checks out.

Story Time
Tell a time when you taught someone, but they didn't realize it until the game was over.

I may not have a story of my own for this, but there's still a classic y'all may enjoy. Just let me find it and do some code-sorcery to link it...

Days of searching and I can't find it.
Suffice to say that sometimes the ornery old Fighter who reeks from munching on garlic all the time and insults the three younger Fighters whenever they fail Fear saves is actually a Paladin incognito.

Story about teaching someone a lesson and they didn't realize it until the game was over...

Leana, my Half-Elf Bard.

The Pathfinder group I am currently with, originally thought bards were useless, because there were other classes that could, in a sense, do the exact same thing as a bard can.

I joined the group at level 10, they were all level 11s, and they didn't want to have to carry a level 1 character.

Upon my joining, I immediately set to work, and weaved stories about the exploits of the group. We used those exploits as the reason my bard went searching for this group, for Leana's backstory.

Anyway, every town this group has been through, Leana would use her performance, to get the group VIP treatment.

In combat, sitting in the background, providing buffs to the group or debuffs to the opponents. Hardly ever doing damage.

10 sessions, and 2 levels later, the group comes upon a village, that is in the mist of being attacked by a dragon. We manage to scare it off, and the villagers told us that once a week the dragon would come down, and attack them, and they wanted it stopped.

Leana didn't have to do anything to get VIP treatment, because we managed to get rid of the dragon, and agreed to kill it. So no storytelling for Leana.

The went in the direction the dragon flew off in, and quickly came upon a giant cave, which turned out to be a lot larger than we anticipated.

We get all the way through to the very end, and we see the dragon tending to its wound, that we gave it. The Fighter, in character quickly comes up with an attack plan, and while in character turns to Leana and says "I don't want anyone to be useless... BARD!"

We were so convincing, that everyone else was thought we were actually angry with each other, and tried to calm us down.

The others in the group, in OOC, actually agreed that Bards were kind of useless... Though again, that was only OOC.

Our yelling has attracted the dragon's attention.

I then secretly talk to the GM, about sneaking out of this cave, and leaving the party behind to deal with the dragon.

He allows it, and says that he'll deal with me, once he has the rest deal with that dragon.

When he gets back to me, he immediately ask where it is Leana is going. I told him she was going back to town, and going to spread lies about the group.

So he asks me to think about what it is that she is going to tell the villagers.

"This group is not as helpful as they appear to be. They will extort money from you, using the fact that they defeated the dragon, to guilt trip you. I have stood idly by as they slaughtered an entire orphanage, with no mercy, or remorse. Not only that, but they, themselves, were the cause for those children to be in that orphanage, as they slaughtered an entire village. They do not have a bounty on their heads, because they made sure to keep an eye on me at all times. I used this dragon as my chance to escape, and warn all of you. Please, I beg of you, if this dragon doesn't kill them, you have to save me, and the rest of this world from their tyranny."

He told me to roll bluff checks, diplomacy checks, etc. Thanks to "Versatile Performance" I am able to use my perform Oratory in place of Diplomacy, and Perform Act in place of Bluff.

I used the built in dice rolling program of the website we were using.

Both Act and Oratory, has 12 skill points in each. A charisma bonus of +6 So a +18 bonus to my die roll. I also had skill focus (oratory) and Skill focus (act), which provided an additional +6, thanks to there being more than 10 ranks in those skills. So +24 to my dice rolls.

The website we used, literally worked in my favor. Told it to roll each skill the number of times my GM told me. 19, 16, 19, 20, for each Diplomacy. 20,20,19,20 for each Bluff. The GM looked at those rolls and said "Holy shit. I'm not even going to bother rolling, the believe every word you said."

As the rest of the group walks, as they return to the village, pissed off that I upped and left them to deal with the dragon, they have all agreed that I do not get to share in any of the loot that they found. However, their smiles of having once again defeated another dragon (this would be the second since my joining the group), was short lived, for the moment they took one step inside the village, they were arrested on the spot. Them being Lawful Good, or Neutral Good, they had no choice but to do as the guards say.

Leana walks up to one of the guards, points towards the pile of loot, and asks "Would it be okay if I rummage through that and keep what I want? Those would've came from the dragon's horde, as they didn't have those when we first arrived."

The guard allows it, and she takes it all. She only keeps three items: A Mithril Chain Shirt with fire resistance. A Mithril Rapier with Icy Burst. And a Cyrstal Ocarina, which the GM created just for my character, that gives me a +5 bonus to perform wind instruments, whenever I use it. I sold everything else.

In Character: That day, the fighter learned a valuable lesson about bards.

OOC: The group as a whole (GM included) learned the same lesson about bards.

The Lesson: Bards, when done properly, can make you their bitch, without having to ever lay a single finger on you.

Possible spells for a 10th level bard (4th-level 'exploit' spell edition):
-Break Enchantment.
-Dominate Person
-Freedom of Movement
-Hold Monster
-Greater Invisibility
-Locate Creature
-Modify Memory
-Neutralize Poison
-Rainbow Pattern
-Repel Vermin
-Secure Shelter
-Speak with Plants
-Summon Monster IV

Because obviously a bard is "useless".
daftdeafdave 3rd Aug 2015, 3:07 AM edit delete reply
Possible skills for any level of bard - literally all of them at 1/2 character level.

@Specter: Let's not also forget his Bardic Performance, Countersong, and all that. Versatile performance being very useful when you know what to grab to do what you want. I also said it was 2 levels later when I pulled that stunt, so I was a 12th level bard at the time. WOOT! Oh and Jack-Of-All-Trades, allowing me to use any skill I please untrained.

@Xelmon: I had to get the group out of jail, and to do so I had to turn around and tell them all that I lied, but only to prove a point. We aren't allowed in that town ever again.

The glory of playing a chaotic Neutral while everyone else plays some sort of ??? good character...

They can't break out of jail without their alignments changing to some degree. While I can pull the stunt I just did, and not forced to change my alignment.
Xelmon 2nd Aug 2015, 7:28 PM edit delete reply
Holy... That is just downright viiiillleee.

Now, have you/GM considered or accounting for potential long-term effects in the campaign?
Namely, now a town thinks that they are devil incarnate, would that spread to other towns?

If you guys haven't scrapped that campaign. :P

There was a situation in a pony RP where two members of the team was competing in a rodeo and the other two were allowed to throw support for one of us. At first it was a hard sell and the support would spread evenly between us. Up until the NPC competitors started rolling really well.

At that point we started throwing the game a bit by putting all the support behind the PC who was rolling better in that competition just so one of us would win. XD

Friendship is Math.

Is your Fallout is Dragons campaign done? If so are all the sessions on your youtube cause I wwould love to listen to them

MTM is just a spinoff while we wait for one player to come back from vacation, so Fallout is Dragons isn't technically over. It's just sitting on hiatus at Session 46. However, if you want to start listening through the hours of podcast we've already recorded for the past year and a half... Well, the playlist has been there since the beginning.

Flotsam, Powder Keg, and The crazy cyborg donkey are the most entertaining but yeah Flotsam is my favorite.
Specter 2nd Aug 2015, 6:34 PM edit delete reply
Yeah, I think Flotsam is the favorite for more then 90% of the viewers (I'm not sure, but it sounds very reasonable). Sadly however, not mine, cause I can't pick favorites. But I can tier them, with Flotsam, Xencarn, Firelight, Aurelia, Blinkie, Chica, and Craggy at the top. Followed by... everyone else.
DallyDaydream 2nd Aug 2015, 7:57 PM edit delete reply
*happy dance continues* Yay Flot am someone's favourite ^_^

And while I'd be tickled pink with that statistic Specter, I actually don't think Flot's as much of a favourite as people think. As the series and character development progresses there's just so much to choose from and so many cool character moments to win folks over. So I hear reference to Flotsam as presumed fan favourite more than I hear people saying she's actually *their* favourite. No, from what I've heard, I think the front runners for fan fave may be Javolt and Xencarn.

</indepth analysis> :P

Yeah, I know (I'm wrong with virtually every choice/answer I give). I just took the opportunity help (aid another) make someone's day... cause that's all I know how to do.

... Yay.

I like Flotsam a lot. She's the team heart! Something I can relate to as I'm the heart for my Fallout Equestria team.

lol. It would kinda always happen since you kinda started the comic exactly two weeks before your birthday.

Jeez, Newbiespud! You should have had the foresight all those years ago to have purposefully delayed by two weeks just to have the two coincide!

Specter 1st Aug 2015, 4:17 PM edit delete reply
Mine is in the same month as Christmas! Yay.

... But I don't celebrate my birthday, I just count it as another day, because I don't need to celebrate something that holds little thought to me. What I do celebrate comes from what I can share, with others I trust can always depend on. There is little else I need to celebrate for.

And so my journey reaches its end. It's been a fun ride, and i'll be sure to check back soon. This entire comic is frankly fantastic, and the fact I just read all of it in... 37 hours, just goes to compliment that.
(sorry I managed to plow through 4 years of work in a day and a half though)

Never feel sorry for plowing through 4 year of work in 37 hours. The fact that you did such a thing, just shows dedication, and shows that the comics are good.

I may not be newbiespud, but having read his (her?) comments, a lot, I don't think he'll be upset about it, but more glad to hear that his work is appreciated.
