Applejack: So who won?
Rainbow Dash: I won!
Applejack: No way!
Spike: You tied!
Applejack and Rainbow Dash: TIED?
Applejack: For first?
Pinkie Pie: For last!!
Applejack: L-Last? How is that even possible?
Rainbow Dash: If we didn't win, then who did?!
DM: <ahem> You see Twilight Sparkle approach you, a medal around her neck.
Rainbow Dash: ...No way.
Applejack: Well, they probably give out medals for more than just first, so…
Twilight Sparkle: Nope, gold. I won.
Applejack and Rainbow Dash: WHAT?!
July 28th, 2011. That's when Friendship is Dragons launched. It's been four straight years, everybody!
Later today, around 4pm Pacific Daylight Time (UTC-7), I'll be livestreaming a special behind-the-scenes/retrospective/creator's-commentary kind of show, where I talk about whatever comes to mind as we browse through the archives and take callers via Skype. Nothing too fancy, but it should definitely be interesting. We'll be streaming for a couple of hours at least, but if you can't make it, the recording will probably go up on YouTube within the next two days, if it all works out. Hope to see you there, though!
The other thing to remember is that they are mid level characters. The wizard may be crap at physical stuff compared to the fighterish types but compared to the NPC classes? It's one of the greatest downfalls of D&D style games.
"I have leveled up my wizard by casting spells and hiding behind the not squishy members of the party. I now know another language, know more about history, and am better at climbing because that's where I put my skill points!"
Before I do the poll, I've got something to say.
4 years, great comic, never missing a day,(as far as I know), yet this isn't a have to do thing.
Most don't get this far, and those that do ends up missing a couple of updates.
You didn't.
And so I think everyone here can agree with me on this.
You are one of the best.
Good job, and let's power through another year of great MLP D&D.
^I don't have much to add besides the fact that I agree with ANW's sentiment. I don't post much in the comments for this comic, but it's been fun following it for however many years it's been now (I got started a little late).
Keep the comics coming though Spud, and I'll keep coming back to enjoy them every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday (:
Actually, 42 is the correct answer. A super-computer that was built for the task determined that to be the answer.
The question is not "What do you get if you multiply six by nine?" That was an echo of the ultimate question dwelling within Arthur's brain because the second machine never finished its calculation. 6 times 9 is the closest he can get to the actually real question.
Well, actually, I'd say you're rather missing the point. Six times nine is fifty-four, but 42 is the correct answer to the question "What do you get when you multiply six by nine?"
That's the correct answer, for the correct question.
The ultimate question of life, the universe, and everything isn't a math question, it's a philosophical one. So, the answer isn't arrived at by multiplication. XD
Great thinker, Douglas Adams.
I only wanted to reference Twilight's racing number with something culturally popular, not start a debate, again.
If I wanted to give a real answer to life and everything, I'd say life is Pandora's box, or Schrodinger's cat, or a box of chocolates. It simply depends on what you make of it, how you view it, and what you get. That theory alone is speculation beyond what I really know, and can be tossed to the side with little regard whether it's right or not.
It makes a lot of sense. Fluttershy, Pinkie and Rarity were probably all applying their "small bonuses" for cheering to her - in order to remain neutral in the AJ/Rainbow rivalry - and of course nopony was sabotaging her, that counts for a lot.
And while the other two were arguing, she was quietly using her stamina points in a nice, neat, optimised way...
She probably noticed that she was always just "in last place" (the GM using a simplified system of "order and location" rather than an actual racetrack where she could fall too far behind) noted that she had just enough Fatigue points to where she could get to the front from the back once, and did that at the very end. It'd fit her M.O., and somewhat mirror the show.
Now for daily poll.

I don't think I could choose just one. Even a lot of the guest comics are a lot of fun. What I love about Friendship is Dragons is the consistency of goodness.
Dragon mountain is good but the Guest DM arc was going when I found the comic... I like all of the story arcs so far but if I have to pick one it's Downfall of the ROGUE...
@Disloyal subject
It is an easy word to misspell, I did it on the last update
JEEZ! JUST GOT THE TITLE JOKE! It seems painfully obvious in retrospect, but I applaud you for getting it right past me. Another series I kinda miss from Disney.
There was a joke about "When nobody's looking I use Dimension Door" at the beginning of the race... Twilight does know that spell. She's nothing if not pragmatic, so there's always the possibility that she bent the rules a little bit to ensure that at least SOMEONE in the party won - thus staving off the shitstorm that would result if an NPC won and expected a Gala ticket as the prize, only to find out that the party couldn't pony up (since they weren't actually competing for a physical ticket, but rather for who gets to take credit for the whole Commander Hurricane's Tomb thing).
Haven't posted here in a while, glad I decided to get caught up today. And I'm glad to see my veeeery early fears of this dying out prematurely were completely wrong.
I was playing a Bard in an Xcrawl game, and we got into a chariot race. I cast Haste on our group, including the horses. The GM was all like "Wow, with the movement bonus from your blatant cheating, you might actually be able to make the jumps through the hoops!"
Turns out, this was more Rollerball than Ben-Hur, and jumping the chariot through flaming hoops would get us more points than lapping the other racers. Good thing the Ranger decided to handle the reins rather than shooting, as her Handle Animal skill was the only thing which kept us from literally crashing and burning.
The crowd loved us of course. Performing stunts with a superhigh Grandstanding skill outweighs any concern for fair play.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but according to the cast page, unless it is outdated, Twilight could not have won using haste or expeditious retreat. This is 4E and not 3.5E,sorry.Dimension Door theory stands, however.
Happy Anniversary Spud, I'v really enjoyed this comic since i'v dicovered it, and while I miss being able to listen in on the Dragon Mawlers adventures, It's still a joy to keep up with you guys.
Makes sense. The other two were both able to get from last to first easily without even using all their stamina points. If Twilight had been saving them, even if she started with fewer she likely had enough to do the same right at the end.
It's a system that rewards doing nothing until the end, then using everything. As a result, absolutely nothing matters until the last decision. I foresee the two losers complaining about that. In fairness, it's perhaps a somewhat flawed system. I'd be annoyed in their position too.
