Twilight Sparkle: Alright, I get it. You’ve got the music covered because all the birds are your friends. Let’s go.
Fluttershy: Wait! Um, can I come with you?
Spike: Sure! My name’s Spike.
Fluttershy: Hi, Spike! I’m Fluttershy.
Fluttershy: So, uh, you’re a dragonling, huh? A baby dragon?
Spike: That’s right! And now I’m Twilight’s familiar!
Fluttershy: Wow! Twilight’s so lucky.
Spike: I know, right?
Fluttershy: How did you get to be a familiar?
Spike: Well, that’s a long story… How much do you want to know?
Fluttershy: Absolutely EVERYTHING.
Twilight Sparkle: Urrrgh…
Spike: Okay! Let me start from when the dragons first arrived in Equestria. There were these two huge dragons, Bahamut and Tiamat…
Let me just take this opportunity to rant this little pet peeve of mine:
I hate when they call Celestia "Tia". I really really really do. It means "aunt" and it will never mean anything else to me.
I can see Tiamat as a 3rd Season villain. She goes after the Elements of Harmony to add to her horde (as they are magical jewels). And the Mane 6 get help from Bahamut disguised as an old colt.
Um... she'd add the gems to her hoard, unless she expected them to fight for her.
Come to think of it, the draconic pantheon fits pretty neatly into D&D... headcanon'd!
Looking back, Fluttershy earlier asked about Celestia, so she is trying to learn more about the game setting. Now it's Twilight's turn to be impatient.
>Purple coloration
>Smaller and slower than other dragons we've seen, but more intelligent personable
>Strong personality, great wit
> Inordinately fond of gems
He's clearly a juvenile Amethyst dragon, first seen in Dragon Magazine #37 (May 1980), later reprinted in The Best of Dragon, Vol. 3.
And thus my horrible secret comes out: I've probably been playing D&D longer than most of you have been alive.
Ok, kinda scary. The Campaign im playing right now revolves heavily around Bahamut/ Tiamat (and dragons in general), and now they show up here. Guess what else we encountered in the Campaign? A Village called Ponyville. I won't go into details, but now all the PCs involved have Ponies as companions. Mines a white Unicorn, guess what her name is.
Is it ok if I use the "Bahamut and Tiamat" thing in a fic? It just gave me an idea for a new story arc (granted, almost the entire thing is just ideas for story arcs right now, but it's a start."
Bahamut and Tiamat are actual historical mythological entities.
Tiamat is a Sumerian deity, her son Marduk was a dragon slayer (and in modern forms of the legend, usually his mother's killer).
Bahamut was an Islamic monster usually described as a fish or a whale, thought to be derived from the biblical Behemoth (despite the later not being a sea creature).
