DM: A piece of your magic, your spirit – you can't be sure exactly what it is – mainfests from your own heart and starts swirling around you.
Twilight Sparkle: I guess this is it. Time to find out what prize I won.
Rarity: Ah, but it sounds like you already know. This has to do with your secret DM conversation, right?
Twilight Sparkle: I suspected, but I couldn't have been sure until... well, just now.
Pinkie PIe: So what's the secret plan? C'mon, tell us tell us tell us tell us!
Applejack: Hold yer horses. We're about to find out in a sec.
Twilight Sparkle: Are you all... okay with this? I feel like I'm leaving you all behind...
Fluttershy: I'm actually really happy for you. ^Goodness knows I wouldn't be able to handle all this attention...^
Rainbow Dash: And at the end of the day, you're still probably gonna be a squishy Wizard.
Twilight Sparkle: I suppose you've got me there.
DM: Can I finish this transformation description? I promise you'll have time to snark after.
Twilight Sparkle: Oh, right, sorry. Carry on.
If there's one thing I consistently like about rewriting these show scenes from this new perspective, it's being able to make the whole Mane Six a part (even if it's a small part) of these important solo moments.

That's a good point! It's like having a running Mane Six commentary over a replay of the show. At least even Rainbow Dash doesn't let her "Too cool for school" need to crack jokes undercut every dramatic moment.
You know, there were some odd bits about Magical Mystery Cure that frustrated me (what exactly was Twilight's spell practically supposed to do anyway?), but parts like the bit of magic coming out of Twilight herself show the staff definitely wanted to make sure it was clear the magic came out of Twilight and not because Celestia granted her wings.
Given what we've seen of Starswirl and the Ancient Six, I'm not sure the spell was meant to be used for anything benign; messing up everyone but the caster seems to have been the intent. But then I have a low opinion of the A6 (like most every authority figure in the show, really).
I assumed that the spell was meant to make the unicorn that cast it ascend to an alicorn, through I have a vague impression that some stuff in later seasons might have implied that wasn't right.
May have just been a 'Access higher plane of magical existence' or the like. The transformation seems to be incidental and specific, though Starswirl might have also experienced it. Then again, it may have been a wholly different experience.
My headcanon for the spell was that it was aimed at being a way to 'borrow' the special talents of other ponies. So if you, say, needed to have a critical message delivered you could take the talent of an earth pony whose cutie mark was for racing and give it to a pegasus so that they could fly faster and farther, (even though their talent would normally be for making cloud banks). The end hope may have even been for 'one to many' copies so you could have a whole village of farmers for the harvest while also having a village of builders for the new bridge and a village of warriors when a militia is called for.
GlimGlam's cutie mark stealing spell even implies that such magic is close enough to being possible to be at least worth checking out. Also there is the talent-granting effect of cutie pox as an additional reason to believe it would be possible.
That spells a problem when you adapt a show (any show) into a campaign. A show normally has main protagonist. That protagonist gets more spotlight and more powers and artifacts. So the problem is: what to do so your players (the real people with their own wishes and ambitions) wouldn't feel robbed with all good stuff going to somebody else?
My first take was to make all players' character a sort of composite character of the main hero, splitting all artefacts that the hero of the show gets to all players somewhat equally. Which worked when I only had 3 players. But then my game became more popular, and other players asked to join. And I ended up in a situation when I didn't have more good stuff to give.
My second idea was to make the main hero an NPC and make players into heroes of another story. They would interact with the hero and help him during the campaign, but they'll have their own adventures in the same world. That worked much better.
