The musical was very entertaining and very offscreen.

Aww, Rainbow's player has come so far in supporting her party.

Yeah, it's a real odd kind of heartwarming.

The song “True True Friend” was actually leaked a few days before the episode premiered, on Youtbue with no visuals. We knew the basic plot of the episode, cutie marks switched, Twilight becomes an alicorn, but recall some people being underwhelmed with it initially. But seeing it with the visuals in context really seemed to lift it up in people’s mind. I still find the tune popping up in my head from time to time.

That’s not terribly on topic with the comic but I confess a part of why I enjoy reading it is seeing the stories play out in a new way and when will I get a chance to comment on it again? Heh.

I do have to say, making the mixing up of the cutie marks a plan of Discord rather than just a Twilight misstep is actually an improvement for me.

I'll agree with the comic change making more sense/being better than the actual show. I would have thought someone so studious and book-smarts would know better than to read aloud an unfinished spell near other magical items... it should be like "Magic Safety 101".

How fortunate that the actual events dispelled your foundationless preconceptions and caused you to reevaluate the character in light of their actions.

Dont forget Smile was leaked like a month early too

Heck, I remember “Winter Wrap Up” being leaked ahead of that episode, which caused a stir because in addition to being great, was the first non-Pinkie song the show had. Also, people got fixated on Twilight’s “Without magic” line and thought the plot was going to have her lose her magic somehow, heh.

Apparently music in Equestria is liquid and all their pipes need to have the gaskets replaced, with the number of leaks they have. XD

From one to another, another to one.
A mark of one's destiny singled out alone, fulfilled.
From all of us together, together we're friends.
With the marks of our destinies made one, there is magic without end!

Twilight is right though. It really does make no sense AND doesn't rhyme even after being complete. It doesn't even flow...

I wished they'd at least shorten it to and made it chant-like or spell-like. Something like this?
From one to another, another to one.
One's mark of destiny, singled out, fulfilled.
All of us together, together we're friends.
Together, combined, makes magic without end!

For whatever reason, I couldn't help but picture some bookish pony responding to your correction with: "Well you have to recall that Starswirl the Bearded's spoken language was Vulgar Gaskin, just before the unification of Equestria and the change in the language that would become Old Franch and much much later lead to our modern dialect. When you're working with a language that old, the translation is bound to get a little loose, and, well, no offense to Princess Twilight, but she's more of a technical writer than a poetic one."

(Just to make sure this is clear, I like the rewording! I've just been reading a lot about translation and adaptation recently.)

Don't forget that it's canon Star Swirl wrote in 'Old Ponish' and had hornwriting so terrible only Starlight could read it without problem, haha!

What does that say about Starlight's writing?

Of course, it is also apparently canon that spoken Equish of a thousand years ago was closer to Shakespeare and the Quakers (ie: only 300-400 years ago in our world -- essentially modern english before standardization via dictionaries... Not Middle English of Chaucer's Canterbury Tales [now that may be a set of stories to be ... purloined ... into an Equestrian setting])
