Guest Author's Note: Welcome to a slightly experimental 6-comic run. Since it seems unlikely Newbiespud will use this material, I can use it without accidentally stepping on his future plots. I know there are mixed opinions about this series, so if you like these guest comics or if you find Pony Life to be an eldritch abomination and your seared eyes beg me to never use its screencaps again, please let me know.

Pinkie Pie did not actually explode in gore. She's just covered in glitter. The real magic, as Newbiespud noted during production, was finding glitter that is easy to clean up.

Pony Life has alicorn Twilight, and Twilight is not an alicorn at this time in the main comic. Consider it a temporary mistake on her sheet for this arc. Like all guest comics, this arc is non-main-comic-canon unless Newbiespud says otherwise.

Eh, as long as you pick fitting facial expressions, and the dialogue will be engaging, you'll be fine. :)

I mostly pay attention to those anyway. And to the characterization itself.

Pony Life was alright in small doses. It had a few pretty good jokes, and if nothing else, I am of the opinion that they wrote a better Applejack.

You missed that version of Applejack?
Digo 24th Apr 2021, 12:11 PM edit delete reply
Yeah. PL Applejack was more sarcastic and would break the fourth wall a bit often which to me felt like a better role for her, while Pinkie can still have the zanier antics.

Well. This should certainly be interesting. And another PM campaign certainly works to explain Pony Life.

I'm strongly of the opinion that while Pony Life doesn't have the depth that FiM displayed in some episodes, it absolutely succeeds in making me entertained for about ten minutes at a time, and that's all it's aiming for anyway.

I observe the note at the end of the post saying that guest submissions are open with a deadline of 4/13. Since that is now well in the past, it occurs to me it might be time to replace the note, either with one saying that guest submissions are closed or else with one saying the deadline has been extended, as the case may be.

Pony Life is a Eldritch Abomination, that is simple, is just like Insmouth

Honestly this is probably one of the better ways to pull fun out of PL as there are a lot of wild expressions to be had

"The real magic was finding glitter that is easy to clean up."

There is no such thing...

I haven't actually kept up with anything MLP related post-FiM. The art style for Pony Life was a bit of a pass on its own, but seeing a clip here and there honestly made it a hard pass.

Need to watch the previews for the next series though. I'm at least planning on giving it a try since I gave FiM that much of a benefit at first. Might file it under "alternate future" though even if I do like it. If only because what I've heard of it so far kind of gives off the vibe that all the good things that happened in FiM ended up being for nothing in the long run, and I can't say I'm too thrilled with that.

So, uh, context? What is Pony Life and why do we hate it?
Digo 26th Apr 2021, 11:36 AM edit delete reply
Pony Life is basically a more slice-of-life version of the show, doing more about gags and slapstick humor. It's kinda like what Teen Titans Go is to the original Teen Titans cartoon.

A lot of people dislike it as a watered down version of the series, and/or the animation is much simpler, but I'd say watch a couple episodes and make your own judgement.

The 'wacky, crazy, full Loony Tunes' version of MLP. I think people saw it as 'replacing' MLP in the same vein as Teen Titans Go, but given how MLP gen 4 got a definite finale (FTR, I actually think Things Change was one of the best show finales ever and more would have cheapened it but I'm in the minority) and then it turns out they were still making a new Gen 5, people were able to either enjoy it for what it was or say "Not for me" and move on, without the baggage of being seen as the show they canceled Young Justice for.
