Princess Cadance: <ahem> I was hoping for something with more beading and a longer train.
Rarity: Allllllright, I see... Uh, what do you think of these designs for the bridesmaids' dresses?
Princess Cadance: Hmmm... These should be a different color.
Rarity: Which... color?
Princess Cadance: Different.
DM: A few of the bridesmaids who tagged along to see the dresses early are all like:
Twinkleshine: I think they're lovely!
Minuette: Me too!
Lyra Heartstrings: I love them!
(beat)
DM: ...That's one hell of a side-eye you have there.
Shining Armor: You should see her roleplaying a beholder.
One of the things I do miss about roleplaying in-person is, well, being able to roleplay and communicate with facial expressions. Or at least being able to put my head in both hands where everyone can see it.

Session 21 - Anecdotal Recall: Podcast | Video
One time at a Bronycon, I got to participate in an improv comedy bit where the Mane Six desperately try to explain themselves to a deeply displeased Princess Celestia. I portrayed Twilight, and as the Pinkie next to me kept talking, I kept leaning closer, hands poised to strangle. One of the bigger hits with the audience that round.
I should start working on body language other than "awkwardly sitting there waiting for a chance to speak that I know will never come if I don't make it come".
Every time I hear of Beholders I remember the time a level 2 wizard bodied a Beholder using a Robe of Useful Things, And the high ground.
Short version is the Eyeball was using Disintergration Rays to drop chunks of the ground into its cavern to capture the party, and this wizard trainee pulled two giant metal doors from the robe(which, for fun, I gave it one of every patch listed, plus let the player roll on the table a few times for extra duplicate patches... Which includes a extra "instant giant steel door") and rode them both down onto the optical menace, and after figuring out the damage, given the weight, material, and distance, several hundred pounds of solid steel falling nearly terminal validity reduced the thing to FOUR hp... Thankfully the player chose to gloat rather then finish it off, as the thing was only trying to capture them to give them a "quest"...
Short version of THAT is a Ilithid kidnapped its pet "Death's Kiss"(vampire beholder kin, basically) and needed it rescued.
As an artist who has done years of commission work for people and had to ask many times for clarification on what the customer wants me to draw/edit, I felt Cadance's answers sting me in my soul. :3
That right there tells me she doesn't care about the result, only that the process be more. Which is a signal to break out the minimum-effort technical compliance, because anything more is a waste.
Between 1405 and today's strip, I wonder if some of the players have forgotten what was said in 1388 -- when Cadence's player had mentioned she was playing an NPC role today, so no sheet to show up like Shining was able to do. There's enough of a hand tip going on that I, as unobservant as I am, could probably have picked up that something off for the character being played (the big warning, as Flutters pointed out, was "Why do you have to be OOC to say that?" about the dresses) ... at this point, would I expect it to be the canon reveal? No, but I'd have at least some suspicion about what was up, much like Twilight is doing ICly.
Then again, my namesake is one of the Ponyfinder equivalent of changelings (a doppleganger), so that might just be a little bit of "I know my own when I see them" bleeding in too, XD
My guess for how it's going to play out is that all the players will know OOC that Cadance is a bad guy and be roleplaying along, but Twilight's issues with her brother will bleed into the game so she's treating Cadance/Cadance's player as the bad guy for real.
