Sandbar (AJ): You're getting a little better with your villain monologues.
DM: I'm honestly surprised none of you interrupted or riffed on that one. Anyway, Cozy's all like: I'll just build my empire somewhere else!
Yona (FS): Is this the part where we chase her?
DM: Before she can make an escape, the other students who've overheard this block a couple of the entrances.
Gallus (RD): 'Bout time!
DM: The waterfall exit is obstructed by no less than the Princesses themselves, and Neighsay.
Ocellus (TS): "And Neighsay, who we were begrudgingly happy to see."
DM: Then the skies are full of royal guard pegasi."
Smolder (RT): Then Diamond Dogs popped out of the earth to rant at her, I must presume.
DM: Needless to say, there's nowhere to run. She's promptly arrested for high crimes.
Silverstream (PP): "You have the right to remain a cute pony! Any attempts to charm us with big puppy-dog eyes can and will be used against you in a court of law!"
You know, now that I think about it... I know we got a couple of detective-themed episodes, but I don't think we had a courtroom drama spoof episode.
Can't say I especially craved such a thing, but I'm mildly surprised that the low-hanging opportunity to have Pinkie Pie act as an insane attorney that somehow still wins the case wasn't taken. Probably for the best, but still.
The cleric was arrested for crimes she had committed in her past as a bandit. It shortcut a lot of the court drama when she confessed and threw herself on the queen's mercy. The queen let her off with a flogging, and they went on to be good friends, which was equal parts weird and touching. :p
Ooh, I think I actually have one for once! Although, I may have told it under a different name already. Basically, I had a NE Aasimar Illusionist at level two or so, and we were going to fight some troglydytes. I was the only evil character in the party, but the CN rogue's actions could go into evil territory sometimes. Anyway, it turned out that the troglydytes were working with the dwarves that had hired us, and we ended up fighting both at the same time. I was playing 4e (the Aasimar was homebrew) so I continuously used ghost sound to message the leader and tell them I wanted in on their moneymaking scheme. Party manages to tie me up and drag me out to trial once they relize I'm not using my minor action every turn (I worked out the exact details of the negotiations with the DM beforehand so we wouldn't be passing notes during combat). At the trial, I roll really well on my bluff checks to get the Magistrate to believe me (although having discovered Pheonix Wright recently certainly helped). Magistrate throws the party in jail besides me. Unfortunately, due to a bunch of other circumstances, I didn't get to continue that campaign. I'll save that for another story time though, because it was more the DM screwing up a bunch of stuff then anything else and not really related to this.
By the way for anyone who thinks I'm 'that guy' here, we all stayed friends afterwords, and there were no hard feelings. People knew that this might happen when we started the campaign.
I play a former cop in Hell's Rebels, so while I'm not super hung up on it, I do like to capture bad guys and turn them in to the proper authorities when it's feasible to do so. Especially when it helps the party's reputation or there might be information to be gained after the fight. We've taken down a gang leader, a serial killer and a would-be assassin that way.
In my game, Celestia herself is charged with several crimes and is due to appear in court.
A few of her charges are legit (and one she even admitted to), but most of them are trumped up by Neighsay. He's trying to get Celestia off the throne and get someone on it that he can more easily manipulate.
...Celestia's an absolute monarch (well, diarch, as she shares with Luna), not an elected official. She can't be removed from power by a trial.
Like, if she does too many attrocities people would rebel, but if told in a in a court of law "you are accused of X" then she could say "no, I am not" and it would be true.
I'm actually not convinced that Equestria has laws at all. Justice seems to be handled by local authority figures or the Princesses, according to a sense of restorative justice and fairness, rather than a written code.
Hopefully someone brings up how effed-up it is to send a foal to hell monster prison. Like seriously, that was effed-up and it didn't even freaking help.
