DM: Scootaloo grabs onto Sweetie Belle… Then Apple Bloom has to grab onto Scootaloo…
Sandbar (AJ): You don't have to tell me where this is going. I'll grab onto Apple Bloom and try to pull them all back.
DM: Alright, give me a Strength check.
Sandbar (AJ): <roll> 16.
DM: <roll> You manage to pull all three fillies back out of the circle. The grasping hands sink back into the orb.
Ocellus (TS): Either Cozy Glow built that in… or that's just the nature of the magic she's using. I don't know which is worse.
Smolder (RT): You weren't… ACTUALLY going to let Sandbar just fail, were you…?
DM: Well… there may have been three more NPCs to rescue…
Gallus (RD): Ah, wouldn't have been so bad.
Sandbar (AJ): Do the CMC have any class levels or proficiencies?
DM: Not as such.
Sandbar (AJ): Then I think there's not much else we can do down here. We've gotta bring down the hammer on Cozy. Spread the word that the vortex is here.
DM: How do you intend to "spread the word"?
Sandbar (AJ): With a… Well, there's always… Uh…
DM: Sending? Dragon fire? How do those things work again?

I just realized something.
Cozy Glow is a mass murderer.
How many died due to being in the air?
Or in the middle of an operation with sharp tools floating in mid air?
I imagine the dissipation of magic would be a gradual thing. Flying would steadily become harder until you simply can't anymore. Levitation would be the same, so there would be time to set down delicate or sharp instruments and implements before doing so becomes inherently dangerous.
Though no less a crisis, considering that without magic Equestria's entire managed ecosystem would cease to function, the Sun and Moon would no longer rise and set, and their entire society would break down through regular citizens no longer being able to perform even basic tasks as they are used to.
Those are pretty Apocalyptic circumstances as far as Equestria goes, so if it's allowed to take its course it's actually a bit worse than probably what you were thinking originally.
OTOH, there's apparently still enough magic in the world for Neighsay to conjure a chain strong enough to contain at least the natural strength of a n Adolescent Yak for a considerable period of time, so things aren't Totally in crisis mode yet.
The chain came from his EEA badge, though, and magical items were the last to fail. And it didn't seem like there was any warning before spells failed, so I'm sure there were some unlucky ponies who happened to be underneath something sharp or heavy when a telekinesis spell failed, and presumably those weren't the sole casualties of the loss of magic, though given how commonly telekinesis magic is used they might be the majority.
Back on the other hand, for some reason Rainbow Dash didn't lose the ability to fly at any point in the process, so apparently pegasi can fly without magic (even though we know they can't) and none of them would have fallen out of the sky.
As I remember it, the pegasi didn't lose the ability to fly before they resolved the drain problem, so seems there wasn't a mass murdering situation from that.
Pegasus resist everything, they resisted Tirek draining their magic and falling to the floor. Twilight resisted being hit in the head with many things when she was a unicorn and Rainbow Dash manage to not break her bones breaking the sound barrier.
