This scene was a little tricky to get screencaps from due to some of the credits overlaying the initial action.

Yeah, that's all I got today. Though there's something to that idea from Pinkie about mixing dangerous circumstances with themed snacks...

Notice: Guest comic submissions are open! Guidelines here. Deadline: January 27th, 2023.

Unregulated Themed Snacks are how you end up with Simic Slaw.

All we can hope is that the slaw never becomes self-replicating.

it's too late, save yourselves... The Slaw is self-replicating now

...I fail to see why she'd be sarcastic. I mean, they're supposed to be the heroes, so inevitably those 'not priorities' as AJ seems to consider them will prompt the town-ponies to come bug them about it til they fix it. As town-ponies (and folk in non-pony settings) generally can't fix their own problems.

And cleaning up old rancid chocolate milk sounds a lot nastier than beating up whoever made it rain in the first place.
Kale 20th Mar 2018, 7:05 AM edit delete reply
Aye, they're heroes. They punch things. They don't bother themselves with silly things like logistics or the cleanup afterwards.

As someone who frequently has to rein myself back from overthinking things, I appreciate Rarity's point of view here.
RandomFan 20th Mar 2018, 8:12 AM edit delete reply
I think that the question is more "You're worrying about those things and not how this'll probably hurt crops"? Rarity's right about all the inconveniences listed, but the rain's also salting the fields. I don't know how bad that is, or how much salt's coming down, but it's certainly something to be worried about.

The popcorn's probably ruined or ruining the other crops, since it covers the fields, but it's also come early and is going to be covered in rancid chocolate milk soon. I don't know if popcorn goes bad beyond going stale, but it'll be stale soon.

And this kind of thing might be happening to every farm in the area, so we have a problem.
Needling Haystacks 20th Mar 2018, 8:07 AM edit delete reply
Hmmm... most of their roads aren't paved, so the bulk of the milk would soak into the ground rather than rot, but puddles would pose a problem. Particularly if the saturation point of chocolate milk is lower than that of water. I don't know if it is though. Perhaps some experimentation is in order. :P

I get the smell thing as something somewhat legit to eventually think about, but clothes specifically? (And even more specifically getting the stains out) Even putting the amount of ponies outside on a typical day in ponyville wearing (ruinable) clothes on the high side I think that's missing the point.
Anvildude 20th Mar 2018, 11:48 AM edit delete reply
See, though, milk-soaked clothes are actually an issue. It's a potential later issue, but it would cause a sudden surge in demand for cloth or cleaning supplies. If all the borax gets used up for cleaning, how will the blacksmith make new shoes and fastenings? If all the cloth gets suddenly bought up for clothing, it could cause an increase in price, drops in supply... That could change the whole economic situation over a long-term period.

Also, rancid milk could/would attract flies. Hordes of them. Which comes with its own problems, aside from disease and whatnot.
Guest 20th Mar 2018, 1:05 PM edit delete reply
My point is that to my knowledge this setting hasn't drastically increased the use and need for clothes. (And that they have other related things like hair to work about) Frankly with that logic it seems an incident at the cleaners or a new social event with a different dress code would be disastrous. (Of course other places beside ponyville might be hit worse but they don't know what's going on there)
silvadel 20th Mar 2018, 9:43 PM edit delete reply
It wouldn't attract flies so much as parasprites. This would be horrible.
Lalli-is-Best 20th Mar 2018, 6:53 AM edit delete reply
Not to mention the smell of all that milk-soaked popcorn...

Huh. If NS drives this the way I think he will, it might not technically conflict with my take on this scene. Not that there's any question that his take is canon, and reconciling these is probably a doomed exercise, but so far:

* AJ doesn't farm corn. The previous take only said there was a corn field next to her orchard, not that it was hers.

* AJ isn't sure this is the same milk, but last time wasn't good, and other varieties probably aren't good either.

* Last time was PP's suggestions, which (along with PP's previous GM experience) could prompt TS to wonder if this is her again.

I don't see any other conflicts yet. (Again, just an exercise for fun.)

We actually had themed meals at a LARP event where chaos magic had gone completely nutterbutters.

Bright red meatloaf, with green ketchup (as was available at the time), purple potatoes, and strawberry milk. All tasted fine and glorious, but wow.
