Any stories about turning a table ruling around? Whether it's the players on the DM or the DM against the players?

I sometimes have that problem when I come back to work after the Monday was a holiday. So the work-week starts on Tuesday but I'm a day behind. :3

Turning the tables...

In a Pony RP, we were inside a Harry Potter comic book playing out a scenario where we all were students needing to be able to pass a teleporting exam. This was an interesting challenge for us earth ponies and pegasi to figure out.

During all that, we were harassed by a rival, a mare named Maleficent (Draco expy) who didn't think we could do it. Well not only did we all manage to pass the teleport test, but our party unicorn managed to teleport with our party, thus passing with the highest grade in class and upstaging Maleficent! :D

Then came the icing-- my character (an earth pony) went over to our rival and offered an olive branch to have lunch together in celebration of everyone passing the test. I caused her to "blue screen" because she expected gloating and not friendship. :D

Beyond the fact I want to hear how everyone passed, I think that is just one of the best comebacks and reactions I've ever heard.

Yeah, I don't think I have anything for table turning other then the DM regretting giving us some relatively over powered magic items in this dungeon excursion, but that's probably been seen by everyone by now.

Though, that does bring a sad concept I remember about always trying to overcome the greatest challenge you can find, and then being unable to find anything after-words.

The way the gm got us non-unicorns to teleport was that we had to concentrate on something we really care about and imagine it was at the spot we wanted to teleport to. For my charActer it was food.

So as one of non D&D posters on this page I come bearing a chunk of News

Good news/ bad news First
Good news todays episode was great (will post my spoiler free review on tuesdays update)
Bad news todays episode was the mid-season mark and we won't have new episodes till later this year (as a midseason finale it was good)



The sources I have searched don't have a date for the second half of the season yet, but going off the leaked episode name list (which hasn't been wrong yet) and the release date of EG: Friendship games (which will be on TV not theaters 9/26/15) IMO new episodes will air in late september or early October

Also SDCC pony panel information is available on EQD (there are some spoilers on there so heads up if you wanna avoid that) I bring it up because one of the questions asked was about who the VA's and writters favorite ship was and the answer from Ashleigh Ball was the best , she ships AJ and RD (me too if you couldn't tell lol)

Anyways happy Saturday everypony I will bring more news when I find it

That seems odd. Usually they get the season wrapped up and then drop the EQG movie. To drop it while running the main season, unless there's some sort of tie in (possible since they don't seem to be rocking a theatrical release) where a specific episode links to the movie mid-season, just seems like strange timing.

I don't doubt your information, but this would be a radical departure from their usual formula. On the other hand, they do seem to be doing that a lot lately.

Hasbro sent out a tweet saying season 6 would start later this year, then an updated tweet saying they ment the second half of season five they got ahead of themselves in the excitment for SDCC. At the MLP Q&A a lot of the questions where about certain things that might happen... i won't quote them because minor spoilers... but I will say that mid October looks like the ideal time for the second half of the season to start if they want certain episodes to be special

Had a moment recently in Iron Kingdoms that I'm reminded of by this one. My character, prior to joining the mercenary company he's an officer in now, was a lieutenant in the Cygnaran military, to which he still has fond feelings and is very loyal when they don't conflict with his current company. (And sometimes even when they do.)

So we're in this desert town populated by mostly more mercenaries and the various people they would attract (so low-quality merchants and brothels, basically.) We find out that there's some big shot hiring up all the mercs he can get his hands on for some job. My character finds out it's this guy named Magnus, who is a mercenary lord and a traitor to Cygnar. The dude's hobby is basically invading my character's home country with mercenary armies. And Cygnar is currently occupied in a war on the opposite end of the country from where he'd be coming from. Magnus has a reasonable shot at sacking the capital. My character tries to find a messenger to send word to them. I was assuming I was just going to hand a letter, already written and sealed, to the guy and say "go." The DM assumes it's dictated to the messenger, who has been instructed by Magnus to intercept exactly this kind of thing. Thankfully, I rolled well on my Detection to notice he was being shifty and going to turn me over...

So one kidnapping later me and the rest of our company have fled the city and dropped the messenger off at some settlement somewhere that he's outside Magnus's reach so he has no reason to rat on us. Let me tell you something, pointing a gun so exotic that the person being threatened has literally no idea what's going to happen when I pull the trigger makes for some good intimidation. The part that reminded me of this was the difference in assumptions between the player and the DM, resulting in two radically different situations.

Ahhhhh. There's nothing quite like consistency. It's really quite a shock (usually) when you see a trick usually used by PCs against the GM flipped against yourself.

Something as silly as evil laughter too. tsk, tsk Rainbow Dash. Well, at least we now know RD would make a great villain.

Well, she has been powering her heroism thus far with a uniquely egotistical approach to playing Chaotic Evil. A unique spin on one of the 9 alignments plus an effective and thematic build makes for grade-S villain material.

Eh. I've always head-canoned that Twilight's player is always in cahoots with the DM after the Nightmare Night debacle. After all, when a player single-handedly demolishes your campaign with no help from you...
Would be easier just to let her in on enough to get some cooperation. If you can't beat 'em, join 'em!

Wizard offered the party their choice from a box o stuff he hadn't gotten around to identifying yet for clearing out an old tower.

Left the DMG open behind the dms screen to the girdle of giant strength. Went to the bathroom. Came back, party was fighting over the girdle.

Minotaur wins and puts on.. the girdle of femininity/masculinity. On a world where there are no female minotaurs.

And thus the minotaur became an actual race...

That's almost like what happened with my party. Same deal, no female minotaurs in the world, and the minotaur fighter tries the girdle first - though in this case one party member cautioned them about the existence of the girdle of masculinity/femininity, only to be shot down by the wizard arguing "that's only one item out of however many there are, what are the odds?"

I make the call that nothing happens when the minotaur puts it on. The party assumes that either it won't help him because he already has exceptional strength, or else maybe it's meant for a different class besides fighter. Bard tries it out next; hilarity ensues.

One of the PCs managed to argue that because a young dragon that was with us was pretty hungry, it should be even more aggressive and its bite should do extra damage. So the GM agreed, which sent an instant warning flag up to me. Sure enough, not to long after we had an extended spell of fighting nothing but undead, and the undead with flesh on their bones were ruled to be too disgusting for the dragon to eat (plus for obvious reasons we were using a lot of fire). And the only other fleshy creatures around were the party...

Had a GM who was kind of cracked - not hyperbole, we think he may actually have had some form of schizophrenia.

Anyway, some jerks rolled into town, defying the priests of the town, claiming that the old gods were powerless, wizards were all charlatans, etc, but *their* magic was the real deal. They walked right into a temple, kicked the old priests out, and set up shop there.

Bear in mind, I was a Goblin Rogue, and as a professional ne'er do well, I strongly suspected so much in the way of Shennanigans were afoot that we were about to turn into fantasy Ireland. So I had some of the party spellcasters do some discrete experimentation. Turns out that a radius of about 300m (we had to repeatedly remind him that D&D used feet, that worked out to a 197-square radius) of the church they'd occupied was basically a non-applicable zone for magic. It wasn't like an anti-magic field, any spells cast into it, duration spells which went into it, etc, just Stopped Working. Like, a Hard No to any magic...

Divine, Arcane, even Psionics, all of it was a Hard No.

Except the magic of those guys. So the party joined the crowd heckling these nay-thiests, creating a huge distraction while I snuck into the church and scouted the place, looking around for anything out of place, and immediately spotted a big stone sitting in a chandelier, looking very out-of-place, if you happened to look up.

So, filing that information away for later, I proceeded to loot the church, and then cut the rope, bringing the chandelier down. I grabbed the stone and legged it like I stole something - because I had stolen *many* things - and hid the stone at least a quarter mile away, telling the DM that I took great pains to conceal it and make sure I was unobserved in doing so.

Now that the Anti-Magic Stone was gone, everybody else's magic worked again, and the nay-thiests were quickly blasted into submission. We dragged them into the church and locked the doors, interrogating them at daggerpoint about how they had cast magic in the field of the stone and had it work normally, and they admitted they'd found the stone and studied it, and figured out how to craft amulets that allowed a spellcaster's magic to work normally within the stone's null field. Then we kicked them in the arse - literally - and told them to leave town and never come back, after relieving them of the amulets.

So, that was being wrapped up, we collected our pay for running the "nay-theists" out of town, successfully pinned the blame for my looting the temple on those same naythiests. Then I popped the question the GM wasn't in any way, shape, or form, prepared for.

"What about the stone?"
"Huh? Oh, some farmer probably carts it off to pave his path with or something."
"No he doesn't."
"What do you mean?"
"I hid the stone carefully, I know exactly where it is. We're going to claim it and use it."
".... Oh."

Did I mention that he popped this on us at fourth level? He handed us an artifact - literally something with powers that would put it in the Artifact category - and didn't realize it.

Heheheheh. Sadly, we didn't dare make use of it - Even with enemy magic not working at all, we reckoned that it would be trivial for hostile spellcasters of high levels to just hire some martial mercenaries of high level to brute-force through any spells we could muster and just kill us and take it. Still, we cackled for a good long while imagining the kind of fun we could have with that.
