Between the last comic and now, things have progressed to a point where (tangentially related, copyright-free) merch might actually be happening! Exciting. Things are still coming together, though, and the further we get the more I want to slow down and make sure we've got all the fine details right.

Looks like things are getting good

Woo! Progress is good news, but it's definitely worth taking your time. Don't wanna find out you accidentally signed away your soul or something.

lol. Don't think that can actually happen.
Steel Resolve 30th Jun 2015, 12:46 PM edit delete reply
You'd be surprised. It's happened before.

Always read the fine print.

Maybe not quite that literally, but it wouldn't be the first time that a webcomic accidentally signed away the rights to their own characters trying to get a book published, or similar. I don't think S Whiplash Publishing is THAT desperate to forcibly take over an MLP fan comic, but you never know ;)

The way the number 11 looks on Dash in the 7th panel reminded me of The Cutie Map. :3

Man, that town would hold the most boring races.
Toric 30th Jun 2015, 9:18 AM edit delete reply
That's not true. Every racer would be neck-and-neck, nose-to-nose the entire race. The suspense would be heart-pounding!
Digo 30th Jun 2015, 1:08 PM edit delete reply
The slowest and most seat-edging race of all time!

Maybe you guys can help me here.
I've been getting a story together, but I'm stuck at one part.
One of the charthers(I just can't spell that word right) is going to be an elemental sealer. I've already got darkness and earth figured out.
For darkness, chain like shadows grabs the person and seals it into the darkness itself.
For earth, the hand of Giga grabs then seals itself around them into a boulder.
But I still need to come up with an idea for the rest.
Maybe you guys can come up with something.

For water, maybe atmospheric moisture (or standing water if available) begins coating the target and forcing itself into their lungs/throat and freezes into an ice crystal before they actually die for crude cryogenics.

For wind, you could actually scatter their essence into the wind in such a way that it can't be reassembled without a command word and your concentration.

Fire, I love the classic burning wheel that bound Ixion. Maybe light the target on fire first, then have that fire rearrange itself into the burning wheel.

And let's not forget the obvious answers for element shaping ideas, Avatar and Korra.
ANW 30th Jun 2015, 12:30 PM edit delete reply
I might use the water idea as an ice seal.
Love that fire idea, but wouldn't it noticeable?
Wind is good.
Toric 30th Jun 2015, 2:22 PM edit delete reply
Maybe, but cliches are cliches because they work so well in a variety of given situations. Besides, that particular story gets a lot of mileage and could easily be the inspiration for said sealing in any universe.

For wood, vines grow out of the ground and hold the target fast.

For metal, the target is chained and shackled and placed in an iron coffin.

For water, the target is submerged beneath enough water that the pressure prevents movement.

For air, the target is flung into the sky and put into orbit.

For fire, the target has pieces burn away and regenerate constantly.

For light, the target is trapped in a brilliant geometric form.
ANW 30th Jun 2015, 12:28 PM edit delete reply
Wood I can get that from nearby trees and seal it in one.
I like the water idea, use it in a deep lake or ocean.
The light is a good one.
Fire, no. Doesn't stop their movement.
Air, do you know how force it takes to escape earth's gravity?
Metal do I just carry one around?
Those things are heavy.
Toric 30th Jun 2015, 4:53 PM edit delete reply
I don't know if your character wears armor, but for metal it could animate that armor to wrap around the opponent like Iron Patriot in Iron Man 3. Either as a straight jacket or a suit of armor that follows you despite it's occupant's struggles.
Otherwise, if they have any you could animate and shape the opponent's metal objects into bindings of some sort.
ANW 30th Jun 2015, 5:41 PM edit delete reply
Uses magic and avoiding to fight.
Metal's too heavy to use.
Have to pass.

Seems like you've got everything but fire air and metal.

Fire - Encased in a powerful inferno which melts anything in its path including the ground beneath their feet. Character falls into a fiery pit.

Air - Trapped in the stillness in the eye of a cyclone.

Metal - Cuffs are placed around hands and feet. An iron coin is placed on the ground. They are bent back arching upwards as the cuffs snap into place about the coin.

Fire, not bad.
Air, I'll stick to scattering them in the wind.
Metal, me like. Carry a metal shield on the back and it would work.

Look at panal one, then at panal two.
Whoops.

The Whoops have been doubled!

(I see what you're pointing out though. AJ's missing number)

If the two players got Stamina points based on their athletics bonuses (12?) then Twilight must have also gotten some of those points! That means that after RD uses all but 1 of hers to make it back to the front, something will happen/the two will sabotage each other leaving Twilight and all the NPCs with all of their points remaining! I predict Twilight will blow past both of them with all of her Stamina in the final quarter!

I'm going to add that she gets a lucky 20 on the roll and places 1st, securing the ticket for herself. :D

Comment take 2. *Internet why you hate me so?*

Well, it seems pretty obvious AJ and Rainbow are going to completely bomb the race, and it's going to be Twilight who is going to have to win to keep the group from a) losing a ticket, or b) the group getting a bad reputaion for taking the ticket unfairly.

... Why to they have to make a feel-good sport that happens annually so hard. *Face Salm* Even some criminals have a beter sense of cooperation and teamwork then them.
Digo 30th Jun 2015, 1:12 PM edit delete reply
Funny you mention criminals, as my old group used to cooperate the best when they were playing Shadowrun, the game of mercs shooting people in the face for money. :D
joe 30th Jun 2015, 11:43 AM edit delete reply
Is Twilight going to derail the mission again? How are they going to get a ticket now?

"Party Poopers"

This episode was a great charecter building episode for Pinkie Pie

3 things I liked

1) The princess of love appears in 3 straight episodes

2) Callbacks to previous episodes

3) Yak's

My only complaint is the way the yaks talk is a little annoying (This nothing like yakyakastan, we angry, we smash)

Well, my game a few weeks ago was a surprisingly big hit given that I only had three players, two of whom were staff. I now have five for a possible weekly campaign starting tomorrow. It's DnD-style generic fantasy using Tracy Hickman's rules-lite XD20. All have made characters and two run through a quick scenario to show how they met. There are four high-schoolers and a counselor (the latter is familiar with DnD but never played, the others are total newbies). I may dragoon other staff members to occasionally play NPCs...

The adventure might be a little trickier -- I like freeform, but I don't want to wing it TOO much. In theory, the party members will meet in a small town which will hire them to investigate a nearby Royal Guard tower which has not communicated lately and has strange lights burning at night. On the way there, they'll discover hints of a threat to the town ...
