I had a lot of fun putting together this particular page. And by "fun," I mean... Just kidding, I really did have fun.

Are those last two panels screencaps? If so, from where?
Guest 14th Dec 2013, 5:46 PM edit delete reply
The panel with the puppet Timberwolf is from 'Spike at your Service'. The one before that might be as well.
DoubleCross 15th Dec 2013, 6:46 AM edit delete reply
Since that's obviously the 3D Timberwolf model instead of the Flash puppet, then yes, it's from Spike at Your Service.

Poll time:
The one time that there is this many monsters, and Dash ISN'T here.
How long do you think she will rant for.
Me: The whole session.
Digo 14th Dec 2013, 6:36 AM edit delete reply
My players had a habit of that. They'd miss a session where their character would of totally be in their element with the encounter. There was even sessions where I'd arrange an encounter to give certain players the spot light and then the the player in question is absent so I have to rewrite. :p

PCs have horrible timing, so I stopped tailoring my campaign around the PCs.
you know that guy 14th Dec 2013, 11:54 AM edit delete reply
One time the GM presented our group with a moral choice on whether or not to give the Hutt some data for a genocidal bioweapon. The Jedi was not present for that session, and we all decided our characters wouldn't have a problem with it.

missionbased campaign.
Told to investigate this ancient mayan/elf temple thing. all very indiana jones. traps everywhere. EVERYWHERE.
The ONE day we didn't have our rogue.

He was so mad, because up until that point there had basically been no traps whatsoever and he felt useless.

Oh wow. A monster so cheesy even Fluttershy can't take it seriously. And that's BEFORE she saw the puppet.

kriss1989
And that's not counting the horrible puns of official D&D monsters. Timber wolves fit right in with wolf spiders, sea lions, spider monkeys, sea wolves, giant vampiric flying frogs (about the size of a house cat), and more.
Limey Lassen 15th Dec 2013, 9:04 PM edit delete reply
What is "giant vampiric flying frogs" a pun on...?
kriss1989 18th Dec 2013, 1:58 AM edit delete reply
kriss1989
The "giant" part, as "it's rather large compared to ther frogs", but is still very small compared to adventurers. When you think giant, you think huge.
Draxynnic 17th Dec 2013, 5:08 AM edit delete reply
Not to mention the tarantella, who's bite... makes you dance.

(To be fair, the sea lion is something you can genuinely find in heraldry and mythology, albeit not necessarily by that name)
silvadel 14th Dec 2013, 7:46 AM edit delete reply
Um, if you have never seen an actual timberwolf before, you wouldn't know if it was the most giant, typical, or a pygmy. You would just know that it is scary.
Arbalest 14th Dec 2013, 8:09 AM edit delete reply
Hey now, don't go ragging on monsters made of wood or plant matter, ESPECIALLY cognizant ones. They will mess you up. A good example of this is a monster in Anima: Beyond Fantasy called the Cath Flidais. It's like a tiger made out of thorns and wood with blossoms growing on its back. Doesn't seem scary right? Ha, just wait until you get close. The blossoms will paralyze you and the monster's claws and thorns will tear you to shreds in order to feed itself and the forest with your blood. Don't diss wooden monsters. Owch.
XanatosDrake 14th Dec 2013, 8:30 PM edit delete reply

Yes well as a summer I tend to summon fire elementals, so plant creatures aren't really a problem for me. Although my binding tends to be a little low so I usually summon below capacity to be on the safe side.

HOLD IT!

Hehe, sorry, had Ace Attorney on the brain lately.

Anyway, this updated yesterday, right? But isn't this comic supposed to update Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays?
Evilbob 14th Dec 2013, 9:47 AM edit delete reply
Yes. Yes it did update yesterday.
You know what today is?

The comic's still on schedule.

Evilbob
Gahhh! I was duped!

Actually. This comic updates Tues, Thurs, Sat.

And it was updated today, not yesterday.

So. Yes. The comic's still on schedule.
Giggle Tail 14th Dec 2013, 7:19 PM edit delete reply
Giggle Tail
It says it was updated yesterday. Just check the date >_>

I'm not complaining either way, just curious about the explanation.
Newbiespud 14th Dec 2013, 7:23 PM edit delete reply
Newbiespud
Today is the 14th, a Saturday. If you check above the comic for the time and date it was posted, it also says the 14th.

The previous comic was updated on the 12th, a Thursday.

If you check the top of the site, right below the text "Friendship is Dragons," it says "Updates Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays."

I think you might be a bit confused.
Giggle Tail 15th Dec 2013, 7:11 AM edit delete reply
Giggle Tail
It says the 13th for me, no matter how many times I look at it >_>

I dunno, maybe the site it just being weird on my end. Meh, whatever.

EDIT: Okay, stranger still: I just noticed that the comic page does say the 14th, but the author's
note and "last updated" notification on my subscriptions page both say the 13th...Plus it never said there was a new page yesterday. Weird...

I believe Anvildude was inquiring as to your coordinates so as to ascertain your time zone, and compare it to Spud's, on which the comic is probably posted.
...having read my own above sentence, it's way too damn flowery. I may have a problem.

This theater is afraid of me...I have seen its true face. The seats are extended gutters and the gutters are full of popcorn and soda, and when the drains finally mold over, all the audience will drown. The accumulated filth of all their snacking and laughing will foam up about their waists and all the piggies and kermits will look up and shout "Save us!"... and I'll look down and whisper "Waka waka."

In 1996, Brian Henson asks me to intervene in Treasure Island, something that his predecessors would *not* ask. A week later the conflict ends. Some of the pirates want to surrender to me personally.

Malroth 16th Dec 2013, 5:25 PM edit delete reply
Even in dnd 3.5 where they're over powered to the point of being able to solo entire parties twice their level they're still not taken seriously by players because they hug trees, talk to animals and sing anti-war protest songs wearing tie die.
Disloyal Subject 22nd Dec 2013, 8:56 PM edit delete reply
I do not sing protest songs or wear tie die! I turn into a tiger and eat the war profiteers, cooking them as I go with Natural Spell. I play for keeps, and leave the protests to the half-elf bard. You may be thinking of some druids of Mielikki. Others among us GET SHIT DONE. BOOYAH!
(Not that I want to be taken seriously; it makes it harder to get the drop on prey, and I like having surprise rounds in which to wild shape & pin them while my companion flanks them.)

DanielLC 14th Dec 2013, 2:04 PM edit delete reply
There are carnivorous plants, most famously the venus fly trap. I don't know if they get any energy from food, but they get nutrients that they'd normally have to get from the soil from it.

Will they encounter the Sugar Glider that Pinkie has been looking for for so long? A Bottle Nose Dolphin? Fruit Bats? A Pit Bull? Prairie Dogs? A Sabre Toothed Tiger? A Hammer Head Shark? A Sword Fish? When will the puns end!?!

D'sparil 14th Dec 2013, 9:20 PM edit delete reply

Personally, I'm looking forward to Party of One, if it makes the cut. Sonic Rainboom, too - and really, all of them that have the hilarious Fluttershy/RD interactions. And less hilarious, like Hurricane Fluttershy, for the sake of awesome. Oh, and now I think of those, Dragon Quest's Disguise checks should be fun.
...hmm. Guess it's safe to say I'm looking forward to everything? I do, though, hope the GM returns soon; Pinkie makes me cringe - as I suspect she's meant to. XD

No, you know what happens? In the middle of the session, her dog jumps onto the table, knocking everything aside. Rather than trying to get the dog off the table or anything like that, she runs with it and says that an even bigger timberwolf showed up, and they have to deal with it...at least, once everyone stops cuddling the puppy and scratching him/her. I could so see her doing this, too:

Pinkie: You have inflicted critical damage. (Turns to dog with hand held like a gun.) BANG!
The dog proceeds to do his/her trick of exaggerated falling over to play dead.
Pinkie: You are victorious!

STORY TIME!

Unusual monsters or creatures that were either worse than expected, or easier than expected, and the story to go with it.

My cat like to gnaw on my laptop's keyboard, so I at her up with it and went to grab a drink. She managed to type a few words (autocorrect), so i role up some stats and had that be the monster. The Hammered Turkey Floor Screamer was a much better monster them anyone anticipated. It was enraged, had two heads, and treated great with garlic
