"When I made this guest page, I wondered if Newbiespud and I also shared a time zone. It also made me wonder where exactly our characters live, too. The Darths and Droids cast probably live all the way in Australia. Hmm... maybe I should have one of my characters take a trip there some day... Ah well, whatever.

"Share a story about a time when you or someone you know called someone up in the middle of the night just to game. Probably doesn't happen very often, but hey... it'd be interesting if I were proven wrong about that, right?"

It's always a challenge, setting up crossovers.

A friend and I called our GM around 9:30-10pm on a school night to ask if he wanted to game. He said no, but at least we did call. :)
My friend and I played Super Bomberman instead.

Dang, the FiD group sure like their drinking, don't they?

This was brilliant several times over. I laughed so hard at, "WE LIVE IN THE SAME TIME ZONE!" and why is the idea of a slumber party a berserk button for AJ?

I've never been summoned for a late night game, though people have called me at ridiculous hours to argue/complain about them. (Compared to other reasons people would call to complain at 2 AM, though, I'll take it.)

I did have a similar experience once. A roommate had people over to game, and they continued on after I went to bed. One was extraordinarily fond of dramatic presentation, which made it difficult to sleep on the other side of thin walls. When I got up for work the next morning, they were still at it. Still at it when I left for work.

...Still at it when I came home. And when I went to bed. Thankfully done before I got up for work the next day, because I was ready to break this up with the nearest blunt instrument by then--and I doubt I could have lifted the fridge.

Actually, Rika is the name of Derpy's player. The "names" of the mane 6 are as yet unknown.

"We live in the same time zone!" was quite funny, though. I probably would think twice about calling someone at 4 in the morning, but I could see Derpy doing that.
Zuche 10th Oct 2012, 7:09 AM edit delete reply
Heh. I was editing that as you were replying.

And doesn't that make them the unnamed six? I guess it's okay as long as that doesn't make them the Secret Six, because I don't need to picture Pinkie Pie as Ragdoll.

...Darn.

I really really like getting Derpy as a PRPGer.

As far at late games go, I personally never called someone late night to play a game - but I have had late nights playing before.

One time my cousin was over and we stayed up all night role-playing. We wanted to see how long we could go without sleep - and we made it all the way through the night, all the way up to roughly 11 a.m. the next morning...

Then we got in the car to go to the local game store...

And conked out in the back seats.

-We should have never sat down...

The seats were what got us. They were just too gosh-darn comfy!
Zuche 10th Oct 2012, 9:19 AM edit delete reply
Yeah, comfy seats will get you ever time. Poor Little Suzy...
Digo 10th Oct 2012, 10:14 AM edit delete reply
Seats nothing, I think if I stayed up till 11am the FLOOR would be comfy. :D

Done it and gone longer than that. try working 3rd shift, and then not seeing your house until around 5 AM on Sunday morning (from a Friday) and playing games of some kind until then. i do that weekly.

side not is a friend of mine went for close to 72 hrs strait playing D&D, just to see how long he could go. Box text did him in.

Having stayed up nights before, I can say with all honesty that floors ARE comfy.
Assuming there's a carpet at least. Otherwise....not so much

You obviously have not rested on a hardwood floor after being up for 48 hours hours.

Timezones.. always causing trouble, especially when they're not there ^^

By the way, I have been meaning to ask this:
I've never actually done any gaming, and I've been wanting to try it out for a while now, but haven't been able to get any of my friends interested. I've also been seeing a lot of comments on this comic from people who appear to be playing via skype/other communication programs.
Could anyone here give me a few pointers on how to find/join a group online?

Due to living in a different time zone, all my Pony Tales campaigns over Skype start at 1am or 3/4am at night.

Hurray for being European in an American dominated enviroment...

Do I detect a couple of Dorkness Rising references?

Either way, no I've never sent or received a call late at night over gaming. I have, however, been gaming until 6am - 7am the next day and forced by the circumstances to attempt to get comfortable enough to sleep with nothing but a wooden floor and a sleeping bag. I think my tired state was evident for the rest of the day.

Friend of Mine called us together for a last minute bachelor party the night before his wedding and instead of strippers he wanted to break out the dice and run a last minute 1shot. Everything seemed fine at first untill around 2 AM when the DM was getting sleepy and he started throwing Psycic-Nano-Cyber-Zombie-Pirate-Piegeons at the party because it made sense to him at the time. He started feeling better once the doughnut shops opened a couple hours later.

I haven't done the "it's late so let's game" thing, but the campaign I was part of in high school would routinely run past 4am (start time was 10pm). I still remember one evening where we took a _break_ around 4 to have LARP-sword duels in a nearby playground.

I've since come to value sleep in my old age.

While I _can_ stay awake for 30-40 hours, it usually isn't by choice. I'm still amazed I made my flight on the 40+-hour stint. You know you're in trouble when you're walking around the airport... and wake up. And realize you've pretty much literally been sleepwalking for the last 6+ hours.

My typical weekly gaming schedule last year (before 3/5 of the group, including me, graduated university):

Fridays 20:00-Saturdays 1:00
Saturdays 10:00-Sundays 2:00 (with breaks for lunch and supper)

Good times.

Non-tabletop, but I play late-night games of League of Legends with a few of my online brony friends all the time. They may troll me horrifically, but they usually get positive results! We have a few east-coasters (self included, I actually live about an hour's drive away from a couple of the guys I play with I found out), a bunch of west-coasters, one or two from the UK, and one from Russia. And thank the magic of friendship that I met that group of nutjobs!

First time actually leaving a comment here.

It wasn't exactly a call, but I had my wife and our brother waking me up at three in the morning just a week ago, wanting me to run them through a few dungeons just to pass time. I blame myself for introducing two game addicts to an already addicting game.

It might not have been tabletop gaming, but my favorite night was when I was playing a level of Halo ODST at 11 PM (as was normal for me before I got a job) and a friend messaged me offering to play.

A couple more guys joined in and before long, it was 7 AM and we were watching the credits.

I've had nights like there with other games, but those were either with fewer people or were planned in advance.

Sounds a bit when the guys and I have a meat weekend.
Atleast once a year we go to someones place, have a three day barbecue and roleplay to we drop.

That's where I learned the lesson "Never say that you follow the most impulsive guy in the group and then pass out on the couch"
or
"If a character is acting like a sneaky bastard, don't let him near the town guards when there's an invasion force outside the walls"
