This is something I've been trying to deal with in my own life. "I can't be a perfectionist, everything I make is terrible! ...Oh."

No Spudventures this week, partially because of scheduling conflicts, and partially because of health. On the plus side, I'm going to be fully vaccinated by today. On the down side, I'm probably going to be fighting symptoms in bed.

Hopefully your symptoms will be mild.

I guess compliments are like the Trojan horse? Is it genuine, or is it full of armed Spartans ready to burn our city down?

Aye. And I’m gullible enough to fall for it, too! I don’t want to be like Troy! Gotta lock down and swallow the key! No one gets in or out! NO ONE!

Ah yes, the old story of the kingdom that stoked a reputation for backstabbing and trickery, such that when they sent a single unarmed envoy, their target locked up out of fear, enforcing a siege upon themselves until they starved to death, after which the trickster kingdom moved in and won without having fielded a single actual soldier.

(This story may or may not itself be a trick to play upon "I don't want to be like X" fears and get people to open up.)

Oh no, people are praising me! I mean, sure, I'm a PhD candidate helping to pioneer the next generation of solar physicists, but I just got lucky! I can't take credit for all this, opportunities just fell into my lap! I'm not comfortable with the idea of other adults looking to me for answers! I'm not ready to BE "another adult"! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH—

- Literally my life for the last few years. Imposter syndrome SUCKS.

As a stellar astrophysics PhD student finishing up writing up my research on improving the precision of a particular measurement by an astonishing two orders of magnitude…this feels so, SO relatable.

My friend... My brother in arms... You have my deepest sympathies.

Out of curiosity, which measurement?

Dang. I'm standing here among amazing, talented people in beautiful fields and I just have this art degree, going "haha I drew a horse with glasses."

On the other side, I like giving compliments so much that people close to me just consider it normal. They are sincere always, I just always look for the good in people...
I'm also somewhat of a perfectionist too, but I take compliments usually at either face value or better. One of my brothers always gives backhanded compliments, so I can usually pick up those too (One I remember is 'You don't smell as bad as you usually do' meant as a nice compliment). ...And I tend to respond seriously even when I know things are jokes.

...Wow, twilight's player's behavior makes a hell of a lot of sense in light of that!
