It's been so long that it's almost tricky to remember that this whole season premiere boils down to "What if the my little ponies went up against Q from Star Trek?"

Then again, given how much I'm hamming up Discord-GM's dialogue, I might as well boil this screencap comic arc down to "What if this group of fictional tabletop players went up against Actual John de Lancie?"

Q, John de Lancie, No matter what form I take, There's always a handsome being in the mirror.

Now if only NS had a guest commenter with a special account for these pages. :P

It amuses me that Twilight, who was one of the newbies to roleplaying at the start of the campaign, is now comparing to "normal games" like a veteran.

'Course, she does seem to have taken to it well enough that she's probably played in other games since...

She also comes across as the type to have looked into how various games are played and has gotten more of a sense of general norms.

Like how reading about the Lake Geneva games in the 1970s can have you understand why the OD&D/AD&D1ed rules are the way they are.

The power of research! Being able to benefit from other peoples' experiences, without having had to live them oneself.

So... in this arc, does Discord momentarily change the PCs into humans just so you can throw a few Equestria Girls screen caps/jokes for fun?
ZhonLord 10th May 2018, 1:51 PM edit delete reply
I wouldn't be surprised if it happened.

I’d read it. Mind you, still read this even if Newbiespud didn’t, but still.

"What must I do to convince you that I'm a PC?!" "Die." "Oh very clever Dash. Eat any good books lately?"

Rarity would be first in line to stab Discord with a fork, just saying.

Q was always one of my favorite TNG characters.

It's funny, cause the roll of Discord was made specifically With John de Lancie in mind and he happily accepted the role.
Borg 10th May 2018, 8:11 AM edit delete reply
Well, it was made with reference to John de Lancie in mind. And then somebody pointed out that the easiest way to get somebody who sounds like John de Lancie is to get actual John de Lancie.

Though in his first appearance, Discord is more malicious than Q usually is (though sometimes Q would slip from mischievous into malicious).
Matiekay_13 10th May 2018, 9:14 AM edit delete reply
Didn't Q throw the Enterprise at the Borg in his first appearance? I'd say that's pretty mean, since not only did a bunch of Redshirts get killed, the Borg found out about the Federation and came looking for them later.

Granted, this also gave the Federation advanced warning that the Borg were a thing to worry about, giving them prep time they wouldn't have had otherwise.

But you could also say that Discord in his first canon appearance subtly helped the Mane 6 improve their friendships by making it more difficult to work together. I think overcoming Discord's interference and becoming better friends resulted in a power boost with the Elements of Harmony, as the lightshow was much more impressive the second time.

Actually, Q's first appearance was in the series premier: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Encounter_at_Farpoint

"What if this group of fictional tabletop players went up against Actual John de Lancie?"

Kind of like how Zap Brannagan is "What if William Shatner were in charge of the Enterprise?"

"What if this group of fictional tabletop players went up against Actual John de Lancie?"

You know, I think it would be interesting if you were able to justify it turning out to be John de Lancie on the other end of that phone.

So, do we now await the end of the arc wherein NS reveals he actually got John de Lancie's help for these pages?

So... Discord is one great and powerfull being but... How common are the enemies that can alter reality and do it with style? When the DM take the gloves off and throw everything.

Any story like that?

I played a campaign where the bad guys was seeking 6 artifacts to become the litteral new God of the universe.

During the campaign, heroes tried to find the artifacts with varying degree of success.

Of course in the end, the bad guy manage to get the absolute power while the heroes has nothing.

Did they lost ? Well, a reality warper use this 'weak' power (compared to the final boss) to do a slight alteration in the reality.
The bad guy was still in control of two of the artifact, but each player was in control of one.

Meaning the final fight was between five people with Discord powers.

Basically the rules were : You can do whatever you want, even if it's impossible and/or illogical, and you have to pass just a basic test to do it. And so does the bad guy. Good Luck.

It was an over the top fight and very fun. Ahh good times.

Just to shake things up, I was thinking I could use a different VA for Discord, and considered Tom Hiddleston, then realized, there is an even greater VA than de Lancie himself:

MARK HAMILL! <Cue Joker Laugh>
