The cool thing about revisiting this episode so many years later: Being able to splice in future screencaps depicting the same lore in more detail.

I write this as I'm a second away from pressing "Update," and I just noticed that the background color choice in the "puppeteer" mural and in the flashback (the sky, parts of the land) is just about the same. Not as abstract as I thought!

Story time

Along time ago, evil was sealed away.
"I waited long enough. Time to free myself."

Who was it, and how long was they sealed away for?

"Who was it, and how long was they sealed away for?"

That is not an easy question. It was a time travel campaign and the big bad was sealed in a closed time loop. depending on your point of view the answer could be 36 hours, 100 years or 10,000+ years.

The GM even managed to finagle it so that the party were the ones who sealed him in there, at a later point in their career when the players had forgotten the specifics, and his was just some guy . . . who had an unending goundhog day to learn magic in.

The princess of the old order. Tired of waiting for that knight she had been flirting with to slaughter his way through the guards, she broke out of her cell and slaughtered her way through the guards.

Once they met up, they slaughtered their way out of the castle, through the nearby city (sparing neither person nor building), out across the farmland (what they did to the livestock is particularly unspeakable), through the forest (the druids will be counseling the wildlife and replanting trees for years), and into the hills where they were finally tricked into going down a dark, deep cavern where hopefully all who follow our wise and magnificent despot need never fear them again.

Rumors that enemies of the new order flee down there are just rumors, for even those unwell enough to think ill of our ruler are not also suicidal. Though if they are, it is no matter so long as they go there to die. Speaking of rumors, there is surely no truth to the allegation that those two are necromantically empowered "adventurers", growing stronger to astronomic potential the more they kill, and just biding their time until they "level up" enough to be unstoppable - even if this was the basis of the old order, and why it had to be deposed.

I ran a game a while back where the party was even more obsessed with getting powerful artifacts than usual. I worked it into the story that the Big Bad was using their lust for power to gather the pieces he needed to re-assemble himself.

Then, my party lost their OP items and had to fight the SCP Broken God. Good times.

If RD thought the stained glass is "brutal" -- wait until Celestia tells her that the stoned Discord was kept in the garden as a decoration.

One pony's "brutal" is another pony's "irresponsible" - is yet another pony's "justified punishment".

I am with Rainbow Dash here...that is totally boss of the princess to have that epic moment immortalized like that.

Note that, in canon, she still does it to this day - and not just for her own epic feats, but her friends' too. (Maybe to try to convince herself that she's not that dark, and thus still appropriate to rule in this lighter age.)

She does it to highlight how her apprentice, and the friends said apprentice has made are so boss and awesome, and thus by extension herself. GASP! What if Celestia is the final boss?!?
Winged Cat 19th Apr 2018, 11:29 AM edit delete reply
Winged Cat
If ever she must be fought, she wants Twilight and company to be more than up to it...for she knows that there is no such thing as a "final" boss in her world. No level cap (she would have long since hit it), no end to the challenges except death (and sometimes not even then).

Discord: "You should hear the gossip I got from the garden parties! Celestia is going to declare a weekly Limbo Party Night in Canterlot just to keep me quiet about it! Although I have no idea why she's so giddy about it, or why she's already got a limbo bar in her section of the castle."

Hey guys I'm still catching up in the archives but I would like to proudly say that I have pulled a Twilight v Nightmare moon by splitting up the party. In 5e, I was playing a level 3 warlock/rouge and split up in order to take down a bandit camp. The group assigned to distraction succeeded in lighting a guard tower on fire, but were chased by a super-powerful second in command who they were clearly supposed to avoid. Instead of that, they lured him into a cave and proceeded to roll extremely high initiative, spraying her with breath attacks, spells, and greatswords, bringing her down to critical health before her honor guard could carry her away. Once she was out of the cave, the DM placed two guards blocking the entrance, clearly there to allow the bad guy to escape. Instead, the second group (I was the third) ran over from where they had been freeing the prisoners, leaving them unshackled at the edge of camp. In about 3 rounds, the rest of the party managed to:
1. Quickly surprise the guards in the cave, with no resistance
2. Lightning breath attack (We had 2 dragonborn) one of the receding guards that had turned around to stall us
3.Incerate the last guard
4.Leave the cave and magic missile the bad guy, who had a direct link to Tiamat

The DM immediately ends the session, stating that "has to do some planning"
I was tied to a pole for the entire fight after taking on 20 cultists at once.

I'll repost this later so more people can see it

We're in the Digital Age. X-Men has been wildly popular for twenty years, with Rogue even being a main character for most of that time.

How is playing makeup still a thing?
Solitary Performance 20th Apr 2018, 5:32 PM edit delete reply
We're still playing makeup thieves, because spell check sees "rouge" as a valid word, and many people's brains don't realize they've written makeup instead of thief until someone else points it out.
Platonix 20th Apr 2018, 6:19 PM edit delete reply
It also doesn't help that the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise has given us a rogue named Rouge.

I run a group out of 5th ed where all of society was upended 300 years ago by an event called the Blight, a slowly advancing force that drained magic out of the world. Their ancestors never figured out how to stop it and so they just fled across the Western ocean.
Fast-forward to our Heros time and many regard the Blight as a legend, but people in the know are aware that the Blight has been steadily crossing the ocean and will soon make landfall.
